i've never had any luck with spinach in ap either. I think spinach is a little picky about light and temperature, both of which i've got a bad position for. |

Roots look fine, yeah spinach is one of those things, sometimes works sometimes doesn't, a bit like corn. |

I had some spinach seeds I threw in 8 or 10 weeks ago. They all germinated just before the freeze we had which killed off all but a few little plants. Since then, these have been growing like rockets. I had no idea spinach could get so big...leaves as big as your head. I think time of year has a lot to do with it. From what I can tell, it likes cool nights and nice warm days. In Texas, January (late winter) certainly seems to be a good planting time as long as it can be protected from the last freeze. I expect it will start getting a little too warm for it pretty soon. |

What do you have for a system set up? I must agree with Zman the roots should be white. Due to the lack of growth over that time period and the dark color of the roots it look to me that your roots accumulated waste from solid waste of the fish and they could no longer get oxygen therefore leading to root rot and severe lack of growth. |
