I've heard alot about moon phases affecting plant growth. I dont understand how this is so. If anyone can shed some light on this I would greatly appreciate it cause I dont know what to think of this. |

The theory behind it is that the moon affects water... ocean tides etc... so some plants grow better depending on which phase the moon is in. So depending whether its waxing or waning, new or full can influence sap flow. So woody plants are supposed to grow better at one time, and 'juicy's' the opposite... something like that anyway

the one i have is rooting vs. leafing veggies, and my gf sticks to it religiously (im not patient ebough to wait) she planted a cuc plant at the right phase and ate a 6" long fruit off it about 3-4 weeks later, so i think they work

iv been playing with seeds for the first time ever, made a small wicking bed 50% perlite 50% organic pot mix, and fed with AP water. first time i planted was when i built it and not in moon phase... bugger all seeds germinated second time planted 98% of seeds up within 5 days... was on moon cycle however was humid and 20-35c for 5 days straight. Second time Planted, all up within 5 days and bumper seedlings... std autumn weather Im a believer |

Dose it still affect plants/systems in greenhouses? And how important is moon planting to AP? ( especially if its with a beginner) |

Your right freo... thats what it was  wouldnt think it would matter whether its in a greenhouse or not as its to do with gravitational pull affecting sap flow isnt it? Not necessarily 'important' to AP, but an interesting theory thats probably worth trying at some stage as many swear by it... because AP grows stuff well anyway, even if your not using it you will still get better growth than soil planting... so your already up one anyway I reckon

They reckon that March 19 we are going to have a "super moon" where the moon will be closer to the earth than normal. Will be interesting to watch and see if there are any large weather events, a few websites try to suggest that extreme weather, earthquakes and volcanoes can be accentuated because of the super moon. Still should be the largest moon you will see in something like a 20 year cycle. |

with the recent weather events, id be saying this may have somthing (not everything) to do with the Quakes in Nz and Japan, Cyclone Yazi..... Will be interesting to see what the 19th brings........ |

So did anything of note happen last time we had one, does anyone know? So what normally gets planted on a full moon? ... and if you were going to suggest something for us 'moon planting newbies' to try, what would you suggest for the night of the 'super moon'? I wonder what results a 'supernatural super moon' could produce... the mind boggles

It's actually been much closer before in history... While the gravitational influences could have some effect on tectonic plate activity... and certainly will have on "spring" tide heights... There's no recorded correlation between the event and volcanic or earthquake activity... Cyclone intensity is almost completely a factor of sea temperatures... not any gravitational or tidal influeneces... |

My Grandmother was a firm believer in planting by the moon cycles. and i have always done this too. Plant Root Crops a day or 2 before, or the day of a New Moon... Plant or transplant Above Ground Crop's a day or 2 before, or the day of a Full Moon... RS |
