I know this isn't technically about aquaponic plants, but hopefully i can get some help all the same. I want to get some tall thick bamboo to make trusses and supports for plants. I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any tall bamboo that is growing wild in perth metro (preferably SOR). There is some growing near me around Bibra Lake, but I think it's a protected area so even though its a pest plant, cutting down a few lengths probably wouldn't be welcomed. Thanks, |

Mmmm do you like digging it up antisense? I was looking at some tall bamboo with green and gold stripes and it has to come out! And soon! We may be able to do a deal. I will let you know when the time is right, I happen to be SOR due to marriage, you knbow the old debate and how is goes! |

Thanks, remember, your not cutting it down, your 'mimicking the natural cycle of babmoo by removing the bits that panda bears would eat' hey, calm do it with the bush and fire, why not give it a go yourself

There's a couple of large clumps of bamboo on Soldiers Rd between Byford and Mundijong. We are growing clumping bamboo (bulging Buddha) as a windbreak on the East side of our (dirt) vegie garden. We hope to be in a position to harvest the bamboo in future years to provide us with garden stakes etc. If you have the room to grow some clumping bamboo in your garden, that would be a long-term solution to your problem. |

Freoboy, I understand what you mean, but the law is the law and I'd hate to get fined for taking something from a reserve. Even if it is an introduced pest. Thanks for the suggestion bythebrook. I might have to go pay a visit to that clump of bamboo  While growing some would definitely be a long term solution, I don't really want to plant any on my property as it can take off rapidly and cause significant root damage to pipes and fences etc. Once it's established it is unbelievably hard to get rid of  Cheers, |

There's a small clump on East side of Soldiers Rd near Abernethy Rd. A much larger clump is on the east side of Soldiers Rd just south of the railway crossing (near the Serpentine Jarrahdale Grammar School). I checked it today. |

there is a rampant patch up here in midland on spring st, not as thick as the stuff Faye has to offer just your normal (well what i call normal ) size bamboo perfect for garden stakes ect its right by the road growing in a storm drain lots of long grass so i would be wary of snakes Cheers pete |
