We were given a stack of seed by a regular to the shop, he told us that it was a "dwarf snake bean". So we'll we've grown some and it grows well, nice and productive. The beans are all produced on the end of spikes where the individual flowers then beans grow out from the end of the spike. I've just eaten one and they taste pretty good. They do look a bit hairy, but when you eat them it's not really noticeable. I was waiting for them to get longer, but this looks like it's all they will grow to as a few of the pods have dried off already. Anyone have any idea about these, anyone grown them? I'll give you some seed from these when you come down this arvo... We found we had issues with germination of many different seeds till Faye went on a blitz of slug trapping, now we have heaps of seeds coming up.. |

I've got some just comming up now. They were the first dwarf seeds I found in the drawer. Put a cup over the standpipe and flood the gb. The slugs will end up on top and can be picked off and given to the fish. |

they look so like what we grow as field peas, purple hull, black eyed, cow peas, zipper cream...ect leave some to mature out and see if the pods color change. i bet jd or one of the other southern usa boys would agree. edet... if they are what we would call a field pea they get shelled before you eat them. |

Hi Joel, I grew them years ago and lost the seed ,I have been trying to get some more for years.Could you save me some seads please? The reason that I like them is that they will grow in the greanhouse during the winter and normal snake beens won't |

Hi bigworm ,the field peas that we have are totally differant and do have to be shelled.Snake beens you eat straight from the bush pod and all. |

Anyone else in Australia that wants some, PM me your address and I'll send some.. Sorry to those OS.... Big worm, they do dry out, I just gave the dried ones to chillidude today but I'll wait till some more dry and the pods go quite dark, I'll take some pics... |

BW, I do agree. They look very similar. I did a little googling and discovered they were indeed different variaties of the same species Vigna unguiculata. I luv black eyed peas |
