[flash=]Help![/flash] I checked my crops this morning and found that I have been overrun by what looks to be Green Peach Aphids. I need an immediate remedy that is fish safe. I am currently brewing up an organic (Garlic/Pepper) spray but could use all of the suggestions that I can. Thanks! |

I have never been very successful at removing aphids once a major infestation has happened. If it is isoated to a couple of plants, you can brew up a sticky mix of fish emulsion, spray it on the leaves in the evening, then hose them off in the morning with decent pressure. This kills them well, but is very time consuming. Do not leave this stuff on the leaves during the day, or you wont have aphids, or a plant. I tend to make sure that any small group of aphids I happen to get are removed very quickly, they spread like fire. |

Pulled all my peas today cause the aphids had got out of control. Been spraying with Eco oil and physically removing them but pulling the plants was the only option. Got a good feed off them, and replaced them with lettuces |

I've got some plants that get infested with aphids because the ants are farming the aphids. I don't know how to stop the ants so there has seemed little point in battling the aphids since the ants would simply find more. My solution, Ignore them. Been working pretty good so far. Plants are still producing, Just gotta avoid getting bit by an ant while picking peppers or Okra. I think the aphids do more damage to certain types of plants than others. If lettuce gets badly infested, I usually just remove it since the leaf lettuce is too hard to spray. |

If possible, use less sprays... and more natural remedy... Like the ladybug... plant some plants to attract good bugs.... viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1490 |

I usually get criticized for it, but I use Safer brand insecticidal soap. Works great! |

Thanks for all of the replies! I think I might have won the battle. I brewed up a spray of onion, garlic, cheyenne pepper, chili powder, black pepper, and water. Smelled great (almost made a soup out of it!) and after the second application, all of the Aphid are dead or gone. |

Ok! Here you go: Soup/Pesticide Recipe: 1 Gal Water 2 Onions 1 full bulb of Garlic 1 tbs cheyenne pepper 1 tbs chili powder 1 tbs black pepper Mash everything together (I used a blender), boil for about 20 minutes, strain, cool, and spray on leaves. I have only tried this once but after the second application, it looks like the Aphids are gone. So far a do not see any ill affects to the plants. |
