Hi folks, I'm wondering what people's thoughts are about growing bulbs in a media filled constant drain or flood and drain grow bed. At the moment I have too many lettuces, peas snow peas and other veges planted for our family and friends. The nitrates are much higher than I expected for a system that has not finished it's cycle/cycles.now50-60,so I need to plant more plants to eat up those nitrates. I'm thinking little mummy still likes flowers like Dutch Iris yellow tulips in the house so I thought I would make our new grow bed look pretty by adding a few more flowers. Does anyone know if these bulbs are suited to an AP system and do you know of others like agapanthers etc to plant?,suggestions welcome. Cheers. |

Well a few people have been commenting on their successful growing of garlic in APs and they're bulbs. Agapanthus have enormous rootsystems. You can't kill them anyway. Hang em in a tree for a year and they'll still be alive. That's my 2 cents worth. Dale |

I have garlic and arrowroot and they are going well. The arrowroot is still growing when the soil ones are not. |

I have some stargazer lillies in my constant flood that are performing well. Slow growers in my system. |

i've done ginger and tumeric, both with excellent success. havent tried any other bulbs yet, but just make sure that you dont plant anything that might be toxic. |

easy enough. buy some nice fresh green ginger from the local farmers market, shove it just under the gravel, and let it go... also grows nicely in the dirt if you can keep it moist. |
