Anyone know whats going on with these chili plants? The young ends seem to quickly die. They shrivel and then just fall off. There was some spider mites but I don't see any now, we got rid of them. Here's the systems numbers: pH 6.5 ammonia 0 Nitrites 0 Nitrates 100 The plants get regular dosing of maxi crop and chelated iron. Any ideas?

Hum, I'm not sure either. My chili's and peppers seem to actually like my rather high pH system though they still need regular Iron. I've never had my chili leaves get curled and bumpy like that. |

What did you treat the spidermites with? And when did you treat them (what time of day) ? |

My Habanero's did something like that. leaves started curling and all dropped off, while jalapeno next to it was fine. I thought it seemed like a water level issue in the GB, as I have another GB where the water level is lower compared to top of media, this has more habaneros in them and they seem fine.. (more dry media at top of bed) However, once they started doing this, they died pretty quickly (the ones that did die) |

Could be either Tobacco Leaf Curl disease or a copper deficiency. I am having a similar problem. |

I used safer insecticidal soap. Copper deficiency? How in the heck do you treat that? |

Probably adding some copper could solve the issue (which may be a problem if you use invertebrates, copper can kill them), but im not expert :b |

Very unlikely to be a copper deficiency IMO... and almost all commercial pellet feeds contain the copper requirements for fish... with their waste providing the trace amounts needed by plants... The addition of copper would ultimately kill your fish IMO... |

If you really had to add copper, could you just throw a penny in the sump? Or would that cause other problems? Mark |

That looks like a virus of sorts, possibly chilli leaf curl maybe due to thrips or maybe as a result of the spider mite attack. either way, I would pull the infected plants out, put them in a plastic bag and then into the garbage - then replace with a fresh sock. H. |
