First let me say I am totally new to growing plants

we have strawberrys growing and the first one is starting to ripen but it is splitting, what would cause that?

I have not had much luck growing strawberries in AP yet.

With tomatoes, often splitting happens from sudden fast growth and change in watering habits if grown in soil.

yeah it has been warming up a bit lately, so maybe?

They are also growing fast but I thought they where supposed to?
never grown strawberries before.

I've never had them split. But many ppl will say strawbs are no good in AP this is not so, but I don't know what I am doing right. I give themselves heaps of neglect though.
Keep the water up to them and try to keep the fruit off the gravel. It will rot.
Other than that, I ignore them until time to pick. Sorry I can't offer more advice.
Oh and if you have to salt your fish for illness, you'll likely lose all the strawb plants. Although this is yet to happen to me.

A heavy rain or overwatering will start plants growing faster than normal which can cause splitting. Spring fertility has been known to cause it also.

What variety of strawberries are you growing... some varieties tend to split easier that other.

Watering cycles is what seems to split fruit for me pears and peaches tomatoes etc will split after a hard rain that followed a dry spell. I split a watermelon this year in the barrel system when I lost a pump for a day maybe two and replaced it. I'm not sure if the roots being up in the barrel and the vine on the ground with the melon helped siphon the water to the melon, but split it clean.

My brother in law (hydroponic farmer) said my split tomatoes (in NFT pipes) were caused by a high osmotic pressure from too much water. He suggested turn off the pump for a while at sunrise and sunset.
