Thinking about planting some sweet corn, but a look at the packets sold here in WA, the seeds are treated with Thiram.
Link below just shows one example, but I am quite certain most sweet corns are treated with Thiram. Those I have checked out anyway.

http://www.mrfothergills.com.au/au/sweet-corn-kelvedon-glory-f1-5713.aspx

For some weird reason, the sweet corn seeds cannot be posted into WA as well so I cannot purchase it from the people selling seeds over east.

But I am sure some people in WA are growing sweet corn... So any thoughts?

Can the Thiram be safely washed off?

Just soak them in a cup for a while before planting.

I dont, but such a small amount of thiram in 12,000 litres of water shouldnt be a problem :)

Okay... I will try that if I still cannot find some seeds that are not treated...

I know the Diggers Club are in Vic but they might be able to post to you. Check out their website.

Not sure if you are just referring to corn or everything but Diggers can post to WA. There are certain seeds and cuttings they will not post but there are plenty they will.

The "Thiram" is an anti-fungal treatment, mainly used for supermarket, nursery packet seeds... and maybe some bulk commercial seeds.... to keep the seed from spoiling over time...... it's doubtful any organic seed suppliers would use it...

Thanks guys. I will check the BYAP shop for their stock of Eden seeds in a few weeks time to see if they stock sweet corn. Otherwise, I will probably get those treated with thiram, raise them in soil as seedlings and plant them out later... Most information indicates Thiram to wash off after a while.
