G'Day Gang,

I need to give my watercress a big hair cut before it takes over the whole pond. Does anyone in the Perth area want some runners?

I'll take you up on that. I'm in Sydney until Thursday so if you can hold some till the weekend would be great.

Is that growing on something or directly (floating) in the water? My water cress is in the growbeds and it's taking over a bit.....

G'day Gemmell,

The original plant was put into a wire hanging basket with 3 1lt milk bottles to keep it afloat. Once the runners go out passed the basket they seem to float on the root mass.

The mint and Gota Kola seem to be doing well also. :)

Thanks, I'm going to try putting it straight in the water....

I didn't know it grows straight in water. I use it extensively in drains at my commercial AP sites.

After seeing your floating mass I have done something similar - the cress is already doing well, just not a thick mat YET 8)

I was wondering how you were going with that particular drain. I recall you saying that you might try to grow rice in it? Looks like the Water Cress loves it.

Haven't tried the rice yet, but as you can see the watercress loves it. In the drain gravel we also have about 20kg of earthworms and they are making short work of the solids build-up. Enough of the hijack now. Seeing the watercess and mint floating has really got me thinking !!! :o

Hey Dennis

Nice bunch of cress you have there :D

Just wondering where I could get some Gotu Kola in Perth?

Do any nurseries sell it, or any places where it grows?

G'Day Mick,

I think we bought our Gota Kola from http://www.tass1trees.com.au/ nursery.

I can probably devide ours if you can't find a supplier.

Hi Dennis
I planted the watercress you gave me in September straight on top of the azolla fern.

This is what it looked like before your water cress.

We are constantly harvesting it. Some goes on sandiches and in salads and some to the compost heap.
The fish love the protection and we love the watercress.

I saw a recipe on "River Cottage" the other day for trout stuffed with watercress and baked in alfoil. I think I will try it with our next lot of trout.
