The chives in one of my small systems have taken off recently.... I pulled some out the other day to see how long they were, and they measured 90cm.. :D This is one of the reasons I love aquaponic systems.

ahhh, looking good - so onions, chives green onions etc sont affect water quality negatively (I ask as I am told to TOTALLY avoid putting onion into my worm farms...)

AM, i think its because onions and garlic are natural vermicides.

My granfather has a recepie for good olden day intestinal worm cure, i think its just basically onion and garlic steeped in red wine. But i'm told it was effective :)

Never heard of fish having problems with it, but then again they're not usually in close proximity :) I reckon it would be fine :)

I wouldn't let the grown onion or garlic rot in the system thought, i think they both have anti-bacterial properties

Nice. Last night after tools away the neighbours came to get fresh herbs and "Where's the chives"? was heard. "Only a few scragglers with the wild parsley". Then - "Will Aqua grow them?"

"I don't know" I reply...

I wouldn't be too concerned, I read an article not that long ago in the aquaponic journal where a guy grew fish and chives using aquaponics.... Nothing else, only chives.... He has been doing it for years and it was oviously working well for him on a commercial level.

good to know - I would like to try onions as I have NEVER been able to grow a good sized onion - unlike my grandfather who apparently grew monster sized ones... I have to try match what he did!
