Can you grow carrots from carrot tops? I remember doing it as a kid, but we never actually put them in the ground...
I planted some carrot tops in my bed, got a big green growth, then they just rotted... dunno why though, cos of the flooding> or because you must grow from seed...

I think if you look carefully you could see a radar dish sprouting from the top of his head...

Hmmm ok then, it's just that I bought baby carrots today, and was thinking of saving the tops... Don't have any seed.

i grow carrots in AP successfully from seed. I plant them between rows or under other things as they are very slow growers. Too much light seems to promote excessive leaf growth. I plant the seed when i transplant the other seedlings. Eg atm i have them between the broccoli rows. I will put more under the tomatoes when i plant out next month

Carrot tops can grow but I've also experienced the tendency to rot. Even if they managed to do well, I doubt you would get a good edible carrot from it, probably just top growth and perhaps flowers so you might be able to collect seeds from flowers off of planted carrot tops. Challenge is doing it without rotting problems.

THANKYOU TC! I was fearing nobody knew the answer to my question. Yes my main aim was to get seeds. I planted some whole baby carrots this year as well as some carrot tops, most have died :-( so I think carrot tops and maybe carrots too will rot.

Ever notice when you get really drunk (not that I have done that for a while) and throw up :puke: you always have carrot in the contents, even if you haven't eaten carrots for months

**Drink responsible and don't throw up, it's a waste good alcohol, and carrots**

Thanks for sharing Nocky.
We have successfully grown carrots at the shop both in expanded clay and believe it or not blue metal. Even surprised me, and they were sraight. Now who would have believed that.

All of my carrots have come out straight :)

Stop being tight Kuda - go down to bunnings and spend $2.50, you'll have thousands of seeds.

You will probably find that any whole carrots you are buying from shops are an F1 variety, and the seed wont be viable anyway.
