Does anyone have any sugestions how to get rid of these.
Never had them until I planted a grapevine. They are destructive little buggers in that they eat the stems, usually where the leaf joins. They only come out at night and drop to the ground if disturbed.
So far I have tried banding the vine and grease on the support wire, no effect
Peeing round the grapevine hoping the ammonia would keep them away, no effect
Putting rolled corrugated cardboard around, they dont go there.
My next attempt will be chilli in water sprayed on the vine but if anyone has any other ideas?

They have now got into my vert NFT and are giving the dwarf beans a hard time :(

In the article it mentions a biological way of killing them with mail order nematodes. The nematodes infect and poison the grubs which breaks the cycle. Also the adults do not like to lay eggs in gritty materials so maybe diamatatious earth (spelling)

I also saw the sticky traps when reading up on them. They are some difficult critters I wonder if the would be attracted to a bug zapper. It would have to be set up in such a way the wingless critters could get to it.

Thanks BRB :)

Will try the chilli on the beans and dig some coarse sand/gravel round the vine with some diatamous (spelling) earth on the top.

Last resort will try the bug zapper.
