I wanted to ask everyone what eatable plants grow very well in their AP systems. I am looking for fast growing plants that are like weeds in their ease and speed of growth. S0, please share with me what plants grow VERY well for you? I know mint in one  What else? |

Radish grow insanely fast. I was also surprised how fast my carrots grew. I haven't compared the time to my dirt garden, but I think they grew faster with AP. Lettuce is a given and I like to grow it in my greenhouse....the dirt doesn't splash on the leaves and the woodchuck can't get to them!

Oregano - I can't use it fast enough. So far Bok Choi is going really well. |

Beetroot, chinese cabbage, tomatoes, rockmelon, water melon........ better off asking what doesnt grow like a weed....for me - lettuce, peas. |

Basil. Also strikes well. Cut a bit off and push it into the clay and you get a new plant. Just haven't worked out what to do with it all.  The fish like it as well.

hey duff here`s a test for ya basil, can you flavour the fish buy feeding them lots of basil, reson i suggest it is a local school(ag collage ) did a test with sheep and thyme with posative results |

If you feed sheep on wild turnip it makes the meat taste like hummonia.

Broccoli seems to grow well in AP (good high nutrient demand plant for cooler weather and the plants are really big and leafy right now here even in hot weather) Tomatoes turn into monsters in my AP system during this time of year and they use up gobs of nutrients. Hum, maragolds are easy to start and seem to grow well in the AP as well. There are some plants that some people call weeds that are doing well in my AP system, purslane is one. I've found that bamboo roots well in AP but you might not want to leave it in since the pond liner might not survive a bamboo grove in a growbed. For a useful (read fodder) weed, I think it would be worth trying amaranth in AP though I haven't done that myself. As the weather gets hotter, sweet potato vines grow like weeds in AP, (well they grow like weeds in just about anything given a bit of moisture.) What is your desire for fast growing stuff? Just to pull lots of nutrients out or are you wanting fodder for animals or just organic matter for the dirt gardens? |

my corn is going gang busters and it is cool here 10 deg c at night 19 22 during the day. Leb cress is going nuts and pak choy is a fast grower and plus one on the radishes |

Herbs are good. I have planted corn and two types of heirloom tomatoes. I have also planted some of the weed that has 40% protein(the name escapes me). Is water cress eatable? |

The Kang Kong goes gang busters and Mint, Marigold, Beans, Corn and Tomatoes also go well for me. |

Kang kong ,, Known to me under the Thai name Pak bung ,,,or the Vietnamese name rou muong,..... translate vegetable of the shallow lake???? Anyway , this stuff rocks , super fast growing , sweet ====even people that don't like lettuce will like this stuff. Seperate container recommended ,, it's WORSE than mint at spredding. |
