Hi All, I am setting up my first system and can only get 4 hours of direct sunlight a day at the moment, I suspect it will get less over winter then get more in Summer. Is 3 to 4 hours enough to run an effective system? I can do a little pruning to get a bit more sun. If I grow tall plants like tomato's and beans they will get more sun, but lettuce, silver beet, rocket, coriander and basil will make up the bulk of the beds. Any info will be great as I am a novice at growing Vegies. Regards Darrell |

You really want to have about 6 hours of sunlight during winter. |

Any chance of getting the ambient light up, ie painting walls etc flat white? |

There is a back wall that gets plenty of sun about 3 metres away, I did look at that option to reflect light off that wall. I will trim some trees as they block the sunlight until about 10am at the moment. That will give me a bit more sun on beds. Unfortunately it is the only spot my wife will let me put the set up. Of course its in the the worst place for growing on the block. She thinks the set up is an eye sore, wash her mouth out I will!!! |

Don't let her look at the BYAP kit systems... or photos on the forum of luxious plant growth in members systems then... She might end up asking you to move the house .... |

You can also reflect the sunlight off of that wall too- just use mylar or in a pinch, tin foil. You can even angle the sunlight for greater impact. Sounds like every little bit will help in your case. |
