My system is not creating tomatoes or broccoli. It is creating humongous, sprawly tomato plants that put out a few flowers but no tomatoes. The broccoli plants have taken their sweet time growing and, after several months, have thin stalks and broad leaves.

The basil in my system has grown well enough but spinach in my system took months to grow tiny leaves that never grew to an eatable size.

My bean plans put out a few beans and then wither. (This pictures I have seen of a potassium deficiency match the look of my beans as their leaves dried and fell off.)

What do I need to make the system produce fruit? I do add iron and potash every few weeks. I saw bags of blood meal and bone meal in my hardware store recently. The bone meal says it helps plants to fruit. Should I add that? If so, how much? (My tank is a 400 gallon tank.)

This system is seven months old. 1/3 of the gravel was from a previous system that was in place for nine months.

Ideas?

Thanks.

A little more info about your system and water test readings might help others diagnose the problem better. Is there a system thread you can link to so we can look that up if you can't post the info here?

In dirt or hydroponic gardening, phosphorus is usually increased while nitrogen decreased to induce flowering/fruiting but in Aquaponics, the phosphorus is usually sufficient from the fish feed/waste. More potassium is usually needed in Aquaponics. What sort of potash are you adding? You might be better off using something like maxi crop or seasol to supplement the potassium/trace nutrients and see how that does for you.

hard to know what conditions (growing) you're area has.
I figure your coming into peak of winter( as we are into the peak of summer 8)
a bit more info would be useful as TCL suggested.
