Post subject:  Capsicum Wall Thickness - How to Increase?

Hi

I have a number of red capsicum plants growing. However the walls of the capsicum are quite thin, not thick like the varieties you can buy at the shops.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Bill

Do you have a picture. Smaller fruit have thinner walls. And the amount of water during there fruiting stage would have an effect of the thickness. Also if they are getting enough nutrients. Are you sure the fruit is ready. I'm presuming they turn red when they are ready.

Variety will make a massive difference. If you want thick walls, save some seed from a shop bought one and grow that. You'll trade off flavour though...

I'd experiment with different varieties of Capsicum to see what differences you can induce. Picking them later will lead to tougher fruit. Also, i'd keep a supply of Ca and Si if you can get it - those along with K are essential cell wall building nutrients and all of them will improve wall thickness.
