Today I picked up approx 1L of cast iron swarf.
This is Ideal (especially if you use an RSG) because cast iron has plenty of carbon for food for bacteria, plenty of iron for your plants, and is porous enough to provide homes for the bacteria. Also, being swarf, there's a heap of surface area available.
hmmm just realised I'd been extolling the virtues, and yet hadn't mentioned that this litre or part thereof is free to a good home, so if anybody wants it
