I've used these plastic cones that are supposed to protect plants from burning because of direct sunlight, but instead it got so hot inside that the plants dried out. But I don't think that's what you mean with plastic over your plants, right?

I did, in my first system... for a number of weeks there used to be condensation on the inside in the mornings which seemed to indicate that the water and gb temp was higher than the air temp... |

I think beltiebandit and cookiecow used storage bins over plants in their grow beds. They had to tie them down to keep em from blowing away though. I expect that I will have greenhouse film over my whole system for a month or two when winter gets here for us the end of December. |

I do for seedlings over the winter period, it tends to get them started a bit quicker for me and also protects from the wind a bit. I cut the top half off a 1.25L drink bottle. Discard the top. drill 1 or 2 small holes in the bottom and place over the seedling as it sprouts. I push the plastic about 1 inch into the gravel. sinple and cheap. try on a few and see how it goes compared to the others surrouding. |
