The lawn weed with wonderful healing properties.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plantago

I have lots of this growing (on purpose) and I just had reason to use some.
Was out in the garage and a very large wasp of some sort hit me on the shoulder and stung me immediately. OUCH! Odd as these particular large wasps that hang out by the garage window have never paid me any mind before.

Luckily I keep several plantain leaves that have been washed in a plastic bag in the freezer. Quite handy to pull out a cold leaf and apply it as a poultice to the sting. Also works nice for burns. The stuff that has been frozen is nice and cold and tends to stick to the skin well enough to stay in place for a while. If you don't have any frozen, you can pick some fresh and chew it up into a mash and apply that to the sting, burn or bite.

Plantain comes in several varieties and I've heard of names like bicyclists weed since it seems to grow most places and if you fall off your bike, you can usually find it to put on your skinned knee or whatever. We used to shoot the flower heads off the narrow leaf variety that was common where I grew up.

It is also edible though the younger leaves and seeds are the only parts I seem to like.

I don't know the specific species I have seeded all over our yard. In common name around here, it would be broad leaf plantain. Looks much like the first picture there on the wikipedia link.
