Does any one have any references to how much salt plants can be subjected to before they start to deteorate?

I know there are various amounts for different plants.

The Isrealies grow tomatoes in salty water, and salt bush tollerates high salt levels, but I am not a sheep so I don't want information of salt bush levels.

I am interested in herbaceous and vegetable plants which are suitable for eating at my dinner table.

So far, most of my plants have been easily able to handle 3 ppt of salt without trouble.

Beats are supposed to be very salt tolerant as is purslane. As to exactly how salt tolerant, hard to tell as I've not gotten any specific numbers from anyone. I can say that I've subjected purslane to pretty high levels of salt for short periods of time.

Perhaps one method of getting a guess as to which plants are more salt tolerant may come from Hydroponic nutrient level recommendations. Since Hydroponic nutrients are somewhat salty, the plants that like the strongest nutrient levels are the ones more likely to tolerate more salt in a Aquaponic system. Tomatoes are some of the heaviest feeders on the hydroponic lists I've seen.

As TCL says, most plants seem fine with 3ppt.... strawberries would be the first to show problems and probably wont cope with much beyond that .... other plants will show varying tolerance up to about 6ppt....

OK Guys and Girls,
we are getting somewhere.

6ppm is a good level for me so far as that is what I have in my water but I might need to take my plants out my tank if I go past that I suppose.

Perhaps the CSIRO has some info.

Can only reference the "cached" page for some reason.... see Table 2 for some values...

Just in case you didn't realise trevor, Rupert is talking about 3 parts per thousand, not million.
This is 3kg per 1000L.

I'd suggest people start refering to g/L or percent (0.1% is 1ppt) or use 3000ppm to avoid this confusion. The stormwater community seems to use ppm all the time ;)

Sorry about my earlier facetious post. My system has no salt so I don't have any experience to help you with.

I know Asparagus loves salt. Anything that narurally grows near the sea/ocean would be a winner.
