Hi Mark, I haven't found many plants that don't like it in my aquaponics systems, the only plant that I haven't managed to grow well has been corn. Some others like potatoes aren't really worth trying as they do so well in the ground anyway. With an aquaponic system you don't need to worry about crop rotations because the water and nutrients are constantly flowing around the whole system, it's not like there is only an immediate area where nutrients are being stripped, it's the whole system. Whether grow beds need cleaning can be a case of what type of aquaponic system your running, I've found flood and drain systems don't really need the beds to be cleaned out in any way. And root matter that is left in the beds tends to breakdown and just more nutrients to the system. I've also found worms in my gravel grow beds that seem to be helping the break down of any plant matter left in the gravel, though I guess the beds wouldn't suffer from a rinse out and a rake every now and then.
