I just saw that EB has listed 40 varieties of tommys
I didn't even kow that there were that many! Is there seriously 40 "differences" between them all?
how do people keep track of things.
Gone are the days when a tommy was a tommy!

I just checked out the link i the seed sharing section EB, Scratch that last question! Can anyone define heirloom for me? is it simply something that has not been "crossed"? If so how can there be so many heirloom varieties? Thanks Steve |

Heirloom is a basically as you would expect the meaning to be, 'old' I hardly dare try and explain incase there are any tomatophyles around, as I have heard the discussion hotly debated before.. I guess it's a little like what denotes an antique?, generally age, but what one person calls an antique others may not agree on... Generally heirloom varieties of plants are the older open polinated varieties.. Tomatoes can be a real trap when you start to get into growing them, there are just so many shapes and sizes as well as colours.. And flavours...  When you've eaten some of the "REAL" tomatoes, you don't want to eat supermarket rubbish again.

Yeah Joel, you can't go back once you've grown good heirloom tomatoes...and then you're always on the lookout for a new type to try.

Im looking for tree tomatos (tamarillo)... have not had one in years... problem is there are sooo many names for it (tomate, tomate extranjero, tomate de arbol, tomate granadilla, granadilla, pix, and caxlan pix, lima tomate, tomate ) |

I'll be in that if any one has some  I LOVE them, but they are $2 ea ATM down here. I love making smoothies for brekkie (just friut in the blender) and a tamarillo makes the plainest juice taste exotic

MONYA!!!!! Thanks mate - the cuttings of tamarillo and mulbery arrived today in good health - they went straight into a grow bed and with a little luck they will shoot soon! Thanks a million mate!

excellent. Glad they got there alive, was a bit worried, as I ran out of allowed weight to wrap them in some wet hand towell or anything. and I didn't want them to rot. YOu must post photos pf progree. It's weird to think that something from here is now in a system up there! |
