Post subject:  Avoiding contamination whilst growing chlorella

Hi apologies if this is the wrong forum:
I'm looking at growing Chlorella Vulgaris in an earthship, what I have been reading contamination from other single celled plants or even bacteria such as Salmonella is a problem, particularly if the water is at close to neutral PH. For reference the tank will be next to another aquaponics system involving salad and fish. The water for the chlorella will come from rainwater which will come from a rainwater harvesting system. My question is how often would I have to sterilise the rainwater harvesting system. Also how much do I have to worry about potential contamination from the aquaponics system with fish and salad from splashes of water etc. Is there anything else I need to consider to prevent contamination?
