Hi,
There is a good demand for Jasmine flower in our area. Is it possible to grow Jasmine flower plant through aquaponics grow beds?

Haven't tried it but I'm pretty sure you can grow it in AP if your weather conditions are right. |

I have 2 small Jamsmine above my IBC fish pond setup that i added into media in December. They have taken a month or so to establish and are now sending out runners/tendrills. Temps here are 25-38 degrees over summer and they seem quite happy. Having said that I have a Diamantina Agathe Scarlet [Diamantina Dipladenia] went in at same time and it loves it in the AP media bed. Lots of flowers and growing very well (much faster than the Jasmine) Also grown various other types over time - marigold, vinca (periwinkle), lobelia etc etc all go well in our Perth climate & AP. |

Hi Darren, Thanks for your reply. I have a doubt that, are there any possibility of the Jasmine Plants roots to be decayed, if exposed to the water in the grow bed continuously. I am using a bell siphon in the bed. Thanks. Joy George. |

I dont think so [edit] you can see that one actually has an outlet right next to it in pics below. in my case I have a large media bed 400mm deep that only fills to around 250mm. Clay balls wick moisture to the roots quite easily. Mine runs on timer F&D with water staying in the lower 150mm permanently. I definitely wouldn't have the water level near the top. They wouldn't like that I don't think. As noted it took a while for them to get going from small plants (rooted in soil) but they seem happy. I think it will be another 4-6 weeks before I really start to see the flowers and bushy growth etc. if you don't want to do beds then I think bato/dutch buckets would also work fine. if they are rooted in soil make sure that you wash all the soil off the roots. |

Hi Darren, Good Day. Thanks for your reply. I am using clay balls in grow beds and the beds have a 400mm deep that fills around 300mm. The Jasmine plants, I intended to plant is a different type. Name - Jasminum, (family) Oleaceae. They were not wining type, instead were shrubs. This plant also known as Jasminum Sambac / Arabian Jasminum. I tried to add some pictures. But don't know how. Instructions for posting images here ..... viewforum.php?f=4 The one "a quick tutorial" should help out - go down the page a bit. Also the one about resizing images may help - probably towards the end. If they are more shrub like then you could look at dutch buckets - that gets you a bit more plant room and can be quite low cost compared t grow beds. do a search (in the box above) on dutch buckets. Still fill them with clay balls or media and the net volume still provides the same ratios etc to your fish. If the plants are your focus then you can fertilise more easily in that arrangement. The ones in my pics above are Jasmine azoricum (Azorean jasmine). That is the climbing variety that has been adapted for garden fences, pergolas etc. |

Hi Darren, Thanks for your advice to use Dutch Buckets. I am not much familiar with it. I googled to know about it. It will be grateful if you could clear my below doubts. Could we integrate the Dutch bucket system with Aquaponics? or Is it good to reduce the height of bell siphon that will keep the water level in grow bed to a safer lower level.
