I am trying to grow lettuce, spinach and cilantro in my system. Would like to know what are the ideal level for nitrite and nitrates this what I have right now. PH = 6.5 Nitrite = 0 Nitrate = 200 any help would be appreciated. |

I believe greens would do fine anywhere from 0-80, with 40-60 being ideal. I've never had over 60 in by system, but have had good growth in all plants even with very low nitrates(0-20). I think above 140, you should eat some fish, plant some plants, or both. |

A more correct question would be what NPK is required for my plants, or probably ore accurate is what nutrient profile is required. In any system, for any plant, nitrite should be at zero as it is toxic to fish and is a measurement of bacteria not required for plant growth. The correct level of Nitrates required can vary from plant to plant so not any one number is perfect. Non fruiting plants don't have a great deal of requirements. More details or pictures of your system would help if you are having issues. |
