I just started my second system outside and in the process I killed half of my fish. I do not have a long enough grow period to purchase more fingerlings...so what I am wondering is, how low can I go on fish/plant ratio? Right now I have about 10 lbs worth of fish for 40sqft of grow area. If the fish are eating well and growing should I be fine or do I need to look at getting more larger fish or alternative ways of adding nitrogen? |

I think you'll be OK, it doesn't take many fish to keep a system going. If you do have troubles you can us Blood and Bone meal to pick up the slack - about 50 gm / 1000 L of grow bed. Some people use it to carry their system through light stocking periods. I don't think you'll need it though. |
