Hi all, what's this? Disease, deficiency or damage?

It is on all leaves except new growth.

All theories are welcome.

That's an interesting one. With the generally pale colour of the leaf and yellowing between the veins you definitely have a deficiency, whether or not that's causing the necrotic patches is another question... at first glance it looks more fungal or piercing insect. Can you post a few photo's of the underside of the leaf close up, as well as some of the entire plant?

When I used to grow a lot of chard in the dirt garden, there was often a lot of this brown spot, which I thought at the time was due to insect attack of some sort, but I never did find out for sure. It happened on nice dark green leaves too, so I didn't think it was related to any deficiency. We still ate them, and there wasn't any noticeable effect on flavour.

I still have no nitrites or nitrates in the system. Not really sure why Substituting with seasol once a week. Any other suggestions to help things along?








Hey Gunagulla, They do have a few tiny black flies visit them occasionally but are generally bug free. We also eat them raw and cooked and they taste fine.

By any chance are you getting dew overnight, or water on the leaves from splashing or some other cause?

Hey scotty, yes we are still getting morning dews at the moment, the beds are exposed to rain but no other source of water comes into contact with the leaves.

I'm thinking it's probably either bacterial or fungal and is related to the water on the leaves giving it a place to start. I'd try to keep them from getting wet if possible.
