Hey, I am wondering if anyone has any ideas of plants that do well in high humidity. I am planning to help a friend run a small aquaponic unit in a 400 ft^2 space and we gotta pay the rent. I figure with the average lettuce and perch thing it will be near impossible to scrounge together $400 to pay said rent each month. In order to accomplish this (or nearly so) the idea is to grow oyster mushrooms in a columnar bag system between the 20-30 veg towers currently in the system. In order to fruit the mushrooms we'll need to maintain humidity at nearly 95% RH so plants adjacent to this will have to be humidity tolerant. I was thinking amaranth, purslane, mallow? Thoughts? Also, the current lettuces, herbs and tomatoes in the system are pretty leggy and seem to flop over fairly consistently, allowing water running through the towers to escape and run down the side of the plants. This causes them to mold, slime up, and smell fishy... Would it make sense to run a fan on them a few days before transplanting to harden them off or is this indicative of another problem entirely? Any help/guidance would be super rad! -m |
