is it possible to grow cucumbers under a grow light. its starting to get cold at nights here in southern wisconsin and my cucumber plant is 4 inches tall and starting to take off i dont want to let it die so im going to set up the old coal room in the basement to continue my aquaponics setup. so i was just wondering can cucumbers produce under grow lights? or should i just stick with leafy greens through the winter. |

You can grow just about anything with MH and HPS lights. For most, the issue is the expense of the lights. |

i grow indoors and i have found that growing with flourecents lights sucks!!! i have found some new stuff that came out awhile back and it is flourecents and it is called T-5 and they are bad ass and it cost around 300 bucks ... but i really like the T-5!!!! but also i ONLY use it for veg when i want to flower something like cuc, tomatoes, watermelon stuff like that i use HPS lights they are the best for flower ....MH lights works BETTER for veg... i also have to say the T-5 is better than a MH lights IMO.... it is worth the cost.... well anyways good luck let me know if you need more help .... oh yeah i also have the 0ne that has 8bulbs in it !!!!!!! |

There are compact fluros grow lights (enviro-friendly) on the market now and available in different colour spectra... Don't have any experience with them though. |

I have my basil under flouro daylight spectrum lights. The seem to be doing OK so far, but they definitely fall into the leafy green rather than flowering/fruiting category. |

As to the original question, yes. I actually just cut down my cucumber crop because it was terribly infected with powedery mildew, but it was growing like crazy. Not aquaponics, but hydro ebb and flow under two 600 Sunmaster Cool Deluxe MH conversion bulbs. I had them trellised and there were hundreds of fruits. Damn shame to lose it, but next spring I'll try it again. For a crop like cucumbers or tomatoes indoors you really need the HIDs for production. Up next.. indoor amaranth. |
