I am trying to grow Spirulina for food in a 10 gal aquarium and I need a source of Iron. I have access to an Iron Chelate but not sure if its food or plant safe. All I know about it I listed below. Any information would be appreciated.

Iron Chelate
VERSENOL™ HEDTA-based

25% Sodium Salt of Iron (hydroxyethyl ethylenediamine-triacetic acid)
1% Disodium (hydroxyethyl ethylenediamine diacetate)
16% Sodium Nitrate
1% Ammonium Nitrate
1% Sodium Glycolate
56% Water

PS: I can't find a forum that deals with growing algae for food so I hope its ok to post here.

Hi, GT Liquid Iron is safe for aquaponics so maybe check your local hydroponics shops for a product with similar additives to this: http://aquagardening.com.au/product/gt- ... ron-500ml/

I also have a friend who is growing algae so I will run it by him.

Are you growing it for fish food because you didn't specify? If you are talking about AP you could only supplement feed which would only slightly benifits the fish but will do minimal for your plants.

The only problem i see is that Fe-HEDTA is a listed algaecide. Not sure if Spirulina is an effected species or not. There's one way to find out though....
