Basil was looking picture perfect just 2 wks ago. The pictures in the day are from a week ago. The night picture is from yesterday.

PH 7.2
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
nitrate 80

What's happening?

PH was <6 a month ago and used calcium hydroxide and chicken egg shells.

pH<6 is pretty low. If you put too much of one nutrient in it can lock out others. I don't know the plant nutrient theory enough to talk from the top of my head but I'm sure others can chime in. It looks like a deficiency and if you have just added a heap of Ca it could be locking out K :dontknow: or something else :dontknow:

Mind you it could also be a disease.

Yellowing leaves from the outside, with green veins, looks like magnesium deficiencies to me.

Add some seasol.

What are your day and night time temperatures at the moment? Basil is pretty sensitive to colder temps

I used hydrated lime and dolomite several times to bring up the pH from <6 a couple weeks ago. The dolomite bag says it has 3%magnesium.

I have squash growing wild! Green onion growing very nicely, peppermint under foliage is dying off, spearmint look nice. Peppers not well at all. Lettuce seedling sprouted but not growing. Watermelon growing nicely. Duckweed growing nicely.

Second the magnesium. Have a very similar issue in my genovese basil minus the necrosis. May not be as bad yet. All the other plants are fine as well... egyptian spinach, green onions, kangkong, water cress.

Is the 3% magnesium enough from dolomite? Any other sources for magnesium? The more natural, the better. Thanks

How did you apply the dolomite? Around base of plant? Foliar app?

What feed are you using? When things get going very little needs to be added. Mostly iron is supplimented. Seasol or maxicrop may be the best and most neutral bet.

As and aside... Have dumped copious amounts of dolomite and Epsom salts around my inground tomatoes showing curly top and nothing... loads of calcium for end rot and nothing... some things like soil and systems just need to mature IMO.

From memory, too much calcium can cause magnesium lockout. Maybe switch from the calcium hydroxide to something else.
