Post subject:  books?

Are there any books published on the growing plant side of aquaponics, preferably in the uk? I'm a very novice gardener, and would find a thorough book very handy. Failing that, are there any recommendations of general gardening books that would be good? Thanks.

Hi Katali

Not that I've ever found, but in saying that it's been a few years since I went hunting for books on the subject.
If you can find a good Horticulture or Organic Gardening book on the plants/topics you're interested in they should give you the information you need. The nutrient requirements/gardening principles... are fairly much the same except watering isn't required as often. :)
Or if you really want to do your head in you can start hunting down Hydroponic books, they tend to be very focussed on specific plant nutrient requirements but the good ones can get very technical. The trick then is working out how to replicate these nutrients in you system at levels/times required but there's plenty of information on that within these threads.

Small scale aquaculture by Steven Van Gorder has a decent chapter on Aquaponic gardening. Not a lot has been published on the plant side, unfortunately. Most of the [aquaculture] books I have mention aquatic plants as an aside, and not a focus. That is why this forum is so good. All angles discussed.

I'd second the organic gardening magazines and books. Lots of great gardening and growing information.

There are several books on the subject, but apart from reading and following them, you must get help from experienced person. The author must have heard about the things from an expert.
