Hi I have an almost fully cycled raft system with a few different kinds of plants. The only ones that seem to be having problems are rucola. I thought at first that this was phosphorus deficiency but my spectrophotometry tests gave me phosphorus levels of 300mg/l. Any ideas what this might be? ![]()

What's your PH sitting on? Different elements can get locked out if the PH is too low or high. From memory, phosphorous gets locked at at 6 or below. Unrelated, but how at the peat cells working for you in the DWC? I tried them and just ended up rotting my seedlings. |

Ph is around 6.5 the peat cells are working great. Better than coconut IME |

Might it be that the peat and coconut are affecting the immediate rhizosphere making it too acidic for phosphorus uptake |

Could do. If it is, once the roots start shooting out the bottom and into the water, I'd imagine it wouldn't be an issue anymore. Others might know plant deficiencies better than me, I'm just judging by the purple, I hadn't heard of anything else that causes purple leaves, and I'm assuming rucola is what we call Rocket lettuce here, and it should be green, not naturally purple. |

Looks great. What fish do you have available in Iceland? |

judging from the curls of the leaves.. it seems to be more like calcium deficiency... do u buffer your system.? and if so what do u use as your buffer... some more pics of your plants both deficient and health ones will help out. |

Walter Mitty is very inaccurate when it comes to locations in iceland. I haven't been buffering my water because the pH has been rather stable, but Icelandic water is extremely soft so I wouldn't be surprised that calcium might be the problem also |
