Over the last few months we have watched our tomato plant grow massive. We have counted over 40 tomatoes on one plant. Over the lat few weeks I think it has developed a disease or deficiency. Does anyone have any ideas?

Looks like it could be a potassium deficiency. Try putting some banana peel in the GB and see if that helps. |

Great sites Jayendra. I have bookmarked them for future use. Still think it might be potassium with the curled leaf, but I defer to my more learned colleague. |

Look like its no the newer leaves to me - if so not potassium - I thought leaf curl was more calcium def. I don't think its K, maybe Ca or Mg or M |

I think probably either Magnesium or Potassium. I do think it looks more like Magnesium but you'll know pretty quick if you get it wrong. If you've been adding a lot of Potassium it can limit the supply of Calcium and Magnesium (I mention this on the off chance that you've been supplementing Potassium) because they use the same entry mechanism and are competing for it's use. Supplementing any of the three can affect the other two. |

Thanks for the replies- I will read those sites tonight. It's not the newer leaves. I think mostly it's the older ones. When it stops raining I will go and look. |

I would put my money on Potassium, you could try a Foliar Spray of Potassium sulphate it should give quite quick results,try a 2% solution, you could add a little epsom salts to this so you can supplement Potassium and Magnessium try 10% for the magnesium. Wait until evening when things have cooled down then give the plant a good misting all over,under the leaves as well,your looking for 70% or more coverage. |
