Hey,

I've set up my own AP system. Have 8 goldfish in FT. I've had the system for around 6 weeks but changed the grow media and fish tank about 2 weeks ago to improve the system. So cycle started again. As of yet I haven't seen any nitrite or nitrate spike. Still coming up as zero. However my ammonia levels seem to be dropping. Anyone have an idea on why this is happening without nitrite or nitrate spike? not showing signs of being cycled. I am getting some plant growth.

I would say you have enough ammonia eating bacteria to lower your ammonia levels, enough nitrite eating bacteria to process all the nitrite and enough plants to consume any nitrate.

Damn, 2 of my goldfish dies last night, not sure how that happened. Ammonia is even lower than yesterday (almost 0) and all other readings are low?

You should get your water tested with another test kit. Some details like size of the tank, growbed, pump, flood and drain or other, etc and photos would help others answer a bit more of your questions.

Interesting use of a swing top bin. :)
