Neighbor had some of this in their pond and said the koi they used to have ate it all the time. Looks different, bigger, has hair like things between the leaves and has lots of roots. The 20 gallon or so pond i got them from had no fish and water was stagnate. I thought duckweed was much smaller. I don't have fish yet but don't know if they will be able to eat this big leaves. I added a hand full to a few of the tanks.

You can check out this website and see if you can find a picture that matches your "duckweed". I couldn't find your plant specifically but you have the ability to look at it in real life. pictures help but they don't show as much as you might think. http://www.mobot.org/jwcross/duckweed/duckweed.htm |

Short answer no. It may be but all the varieties of duckweed that I know have a much smaller simpler leaf. |

It should be abundant in south florida. You will find it in still water with lots of nutrients. |

Lots of water fern are just as good as duck weed. Since you have that one why not grow it? |

I put some of the fern in one of my tanks and has not grown any that I can tell. Going to get me some duckweed instead since it doubles nearly daily. |
