So people, what herbs have you been able to grow in your systems? :?: :?:
I will hopefully be growing herbs with my year 6/7 students and their preschool buddies this comming term and I am looking for ideas as to what to grow... The preschoolers need to see progress within 7 or so weeks (get them hooked on Aquaponics at an EARLY age) - so I am attempting to pick your brains as to which herbs grew well (and fast) :P

Mint is awful to get rid of again.

Fast is lettuce, fancy types 4 weeks to be ready in Summer.
Go for a salad mix they'll love aqua more if they can actually eat it.

I will be growing cherry tomatoes myself for them - the idea is to send an entire herb home, roota and all, for the parents of the preshoolers (along with a note about it being 100% organic and having been grown in an aquaponics system) - get some more convertees hopefully!!! :)

i am currently growing mint, basil and parsley. Also i have planted cherry tomatoes, more basil and spinach in my new system and all seem to be doing well, so will wait and see how they go as some of these are quite heavy feeders.

Cherry tomatoes grow all around my place like weeds. If I grow toms in my system they will be big juicy ones :D

Our Thyme is not looking like it is coping but the Rosemary and going great guns!! The main plant is flowing and I accidently broke a branch of and stuck it back in the grow bed and only after a week or so, noticed that it has started to grow roots!

Yeah, so much for the story that Rosemary doesn't like too much water.... mine grows faster than I can chop it down...

Cuttings take very well in AP... :)

Herbs I've grown in AP.
Basil of course
Parsley
Cilantro
dill
fennel
rosemary
Oregano (was started in dirt I don't know if any of the seeds I put directly in AP have worked the oregano has been perennial)
Stevia

I don't think I've had much like with thyme in AP or dirt. Would love to have a carpet of it hanging over the edge of a growbed the way my oregano does.

Not only for culinary purposes but medicinal uses also!
The feverfew is used for headaches and arthritis - whilst only the leaves are taken the flowers make a good show.
Mint tea settles the stomach and Thyme taken for coughs and colds among other things.
