Beetles.. watch out for them... they feed on leaves, stems, buds, etc. |

Slugs, snails, grub worms or caterpillars, birds... The list goes on. You certainly want to protect seedlings that small. Beetles is such a broad description. Some are bad, others, like ladybugs, are practically mandatory to have around. For slugs and snails, go out at night with a flashlight, and pick them off. I like to use disposable chopsticks for this. I then throw them into the fishtank for free food. I also put come copper tape around the perimeter of my growbeds. I notice a lot of silver trails around my patio, but no more in my growbeds. For the caterpillars and grub worms, Dipel does the job. Get the omri certified stuff. Birds and other vermin are kept at bay with netting. |
