I'm a big mint fan, and when the plants shut down for winter I have a pang of regret. I know all too well how the things grow like Ebola, but I very much want it to be part of my AP system. Two to three varieties will make my life complete , a bruised sprig of Peppermint Patty in an ice coffee just makes mowing the lawn seem worth it!

Has anyone tried mint in a dutch bucket alongside a media GB? Instead of the typical drip emitters, I can picture something like a quarter-inch hose fed off a small submersible pump-and-timer in the sump, or if I set up a swirl filter for DWC (part of eventual plan) run off that.

I did years ago.

I wouldn't do it again but that had nothing to do with it working or not.

I had a frame over my FT holding 10" pots with mint and other invasives. They had their bottoms just in the water and grew like mad. Since the SLO had really small holes and bits of plant didn't sink I could regularly clean out broken pieces attempting to escape and they never got to my GBs.

The reason I wouldn't do it now is that I'd prefer a clearer FT.

Wicking medium or clay/hydroton?

I had some in my grow bed. I took it out because it was getting so big. Just put them in a pot and spray with water every once in a while and they do fine.

Most were just gravel (20mm screenings) but some included river sand.
