To anybody who has grown tomatoes in their AP system-
Which variety of tomato are you growing? Please include determinate/indeterminate
How many tomatoes do your plants yield on average over their life?
How long do they live?
How often do you prune?
Are you using a cage or other growing aid?
How tall do they get?
Are your tomatoes small, medium, large, or extra large?
How much grow area are you giving each plant?

I have begun growing Beefsteaks in my garden and will be updating with the progress of my plants; I'm hoping to have a collective of growing statistics for each variety to find the ideal tomato to grow in AP. If you can think of any questions to add please suggest, I want this to be a complete guide to ideal tomato growing in AP.

I have a question that might contribute to this thread. Typically I grow tomatoes in the ground and they grow up vertically. Has anyone trained a tomato plant to grow linear?

Due to space constraints this summer I am thinking about growing my tomato plant along a railing and using zip ties to hold it in place. Any thoughts?

Another option is to let it hang off the railing and grow towards the ground. This option will give it the most sunlight but i will need to figure out a method to stop it from flailing in the wind. Once again, any thought?


edit: I was given some trimmings from an organic farm to start my plant(s) and I forgot to ask what plant type they were. Oops! I know he strings them up to the roof atleast 10 feet tall. Figured the plant type makes a difference. I also have some beefsteak seeds.
