Greetings everyone! Newbie to the board here! :wave1:

I had a two part question, the first is about aquaponics compatibility with berries such as goji or schizandra. The second is with plants/herbs such as gynostemma, maca, chamomile, turmeric, yacon, or anything similar.

For the berries..
I was curious to see if any one has had any experience or knowledge in regards to Goji or schizandra berries being grown in aquaponics. How have they fared in a soilless and controlled environment, hardiness, etc. Within a controlled environment how did it affect the flowering/fruiting period? Did it extend this period at all? Are there certain changing seasonal temperature/parameter requirements?

For the other plants same thing as above - any input or advice that you can offer would be very welcome!!

I appreciate your time and advice, thank you very much!

-Mark :)

Interesting selection of plants and herbs.

I personally havnt tried any of those and Im not sure if Ive read of anyone trying them. Maybe some berry species and there is a lot of different herbs we all grow.

All I can say is I dont think Ive come across anything that I havnt been able to grow yet.

Hi Mark

When planting things you need to look at what the plant requires

1/ Does it need a period chilling

2/ what ph medium does it want

3/ what nutritional requirements does it need

4/ What sun requirements does it need

and the list goes on.

I've got Gogi berries growing in my soil garden (never heard of schizandra)

Just by looking at their requirements, you should be able to guess how they would perfom.

Gogi

Quote:
For successful growth, is critical that the soil PH remain at 6.8 or higher. High nitrogen is not recommended for these plants.

Not liking high nitrogen would possibly suggest an AP system is not the best medium.

Schizandra

Quote:
Plant your Schizandra in rich, well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. Sandy to clay loam is best for the Schizandra, with a pH range between 5.5 and 6.5.

This may grow well as long as you keep the ph below 6.5.

Just by looking at the ph requirement of both plants you can't grow both well in the same system.

cheers Lou
