It's poisonous, right?

seeds contain ricin which was used by Bulgarian secret police to assassinate a defector by shooting a pellet with this poison from a gun disguised as an umbrella

The plant's botanical name is Ricinus communis so there is the toxic ricin component right there in its name.
Many people confuse the terms noxious and toxic but it doesn't matter with castor oil plant because it is both! It has been declared a noxious weed (in Australia at least) and its seeds are extremely toxic.
I can't recall having seen it for years - maybe the eradication program is working - but I seem to remember it had a strange odour. Can anyone confirm this odour from their own experience of the plant?

I live at Muckenburra, west of Gingin, gorotsuki69. I haven't seen any castor oil plant up here, not that I'm looking for it.

I live just outside the CBD in Melbourne.. An old run down house probably about 100 years old which had squatters living in it was knocked down and these plants have come up all over the vacant block!

now knowing its super poisonous I wont be taking my dog for a walk near it.

As Ryan mentioned "Stoner" i did think that maybe the squatters thought it would be funny to plot the vacant block with some fun seedlings they had, but guess its something not fun at all!

should i be alerting someone who was meant to eradicate this plant? because it seems as though it's just spreading..
