This discussion doesn't have as much to do with aquaponics directly as much as it provides useful secondary bi-products that can benefit the AP system. Many of the cultivated gourmet mushrooms (and several species of bacteria) are unique because they digest lignin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lignin Oyster mushrooms, shiitake, pioppino, lions mane, chicken of the woods, nameko, and maitake all grow on sawdust or wood mulch. Only the common button mushroom grows on manure based substrates. Here's a link to a post where I talked about some of the secondary bi-products that mushrooms could provide- viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15204&p=371924#p371924 Here's my first fully automated oyster GH its a flowerhouse pop up greenhouse, which was $89 love the greenhouse itself, mofo sets up in literally 2-3 mins. ![]() Room temp set to 69F via a digital radiator heater with a built in thermostat. 99.97% HEPA filtered air intake, ultrasonic pond foggers for humidified FAE and inside the GH humidity Humidity control is accomplished by a green air products total humidity control 1, set to 80. I use a 24 hour cycle timer with 15 minute increments, one 15 min FAE every hour. Here is the air intake, a tub on tub design, with a 90 degree elbow to keep water out of the top. The top is sealed with cheapo weather stripping to keep the air from flowing out, if I were to re-do this I would put the schmuvbox 2.0 in the center so that it would be more balanced and seal on the tubs lip. Has one of the ultrasonic pond foggers with LED lights from lowes, which is what I could find locally. ![]() ![]() Inside top tub, you can see the schmuv sitting down in the tub and the 90 degree elbow siliconed into place. ![]() Bottom tub inside view, you can see the ultrasonic fog in second pic- ![]() ![]() Inside the greenhouse, six inch clip on oscillating fan from the hydro store to circulate air ![]() Another ultrasonic, this one is set up with a 24 quart sterilite tub inside of a larger 58 quart sterilite tub I keep an extra tub in my clean room to exchange with the water catch tub daily, to minimize bacteria. Notice the water collection in the bottom of the tub in the first picture below? Second picture shows how far the lid is offset to minimize splashing and still allow air circulation for the humidity to disperse. Third pic is just an over head shot of the whole thing. ![]() ![]() ![]() Lid pulled back, you can see fogger inside the small tub ![]() A few fruits ![]() ![]() ![]() Hope this has helped some of you who would like to learn to grow mushrooms! If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to shoot me a pm. Here's a link to the schmuvbox and its evolution, this is what I use to do my sterile work. original schmuvbox https://mycotopia.net/forums/gloveboxes ... uvbox.html schmuvbox 2.0 https://mycotopia.net/forums/fungi-magi ... ilter.html |

Sorry, they are img transfers from the original topic and I cannot edit them anymore. If a mod would remove the images, I can redo the whole post. |

I'm assuming it has worked... but your sterile technique could use some work... fold to the inside each successive time you wipe a jar down... or have a prepped set of towels... and utilize a fresh one for each wipe-down. |
