Post subject:  heavy metal, OP/OC pesticide and PCB testing

Hi guys, given the amount of aldrin and lead paint used around perth back in the day i decided to get my fruit and veg tested, in both soil and AP produce. I have a new baby in the house and was going to start feeding him home grown produce and wanted to be sure i wasn't kidding myself that it was safe.

it turned up nothing above the limits of detection except zinc, and even that was only 5ppm. well below any threshold to worry about.

I thought maybe other people might be interested in it, the company i used was ARL arlwa.com.au located in welshpool, they were really good to deal with and had no problem taking my sample.

I just picked 5 pieces of fruit from around the garden and they combined it into a sample. they can do the same with soils and also eggs.

for $175 it was professionally tested for 20 chemical contaminants (DDT, PCB, OP and OC's) and 8 heavy metals, which i think is pretty fair. the limits of detection were between 1ppm and 0.002ppm depending on the item so pretty damn precise. they also provided a QC report to prove it's accuracy.

i'd recommend them for how good they were to deal with considering all my questions.

$175 is a good price... and cheap for peace of mind...

I agree it's cheap peace of mind rup. those crappy lead pen tests you can buy are $30 alone.

anyone with chickens should get this done, dieldrin was very common and it bio accumulates in the fatty part of the egg. lead also is also common from lead paint. both aren't very mobile in soil so just because it was 40 years ago it doesn't mean levels have reduced significantly.

if you live in a wooden house build before 1980 i'd get it checked out
