Has anyone been using any chili or garlic sprays in/on their system? I was about to start doing a test to see how the system reacts, I've been getting a fair few aphids and thrip, as well as some mealy bug... And I've had many people enquiring as to what they can use on plants growing in a system. |

I sprayed my stuff with Dipel today. Hopefullly I will have a lot less caterpillars. |

I was thinking I might get a goldfish and put it into a bucket, then try some of the commercially available garlic/chili spray, by spraying it straight into the water. Then if that goes ok, try a silver perch in a bucket. |

well i once cleaned my bio filter and keep ed the run off it had no sent at first then it was putrid after 3 days i think this is when the bacteria died, i could be wrong? but if you can get concentrated bacteria that might help. On a side note, this is a very overlooked benefit of AP ITS ODOUR FREE ORGANICS. where elec will you get that eah?! Thats just one more to add to the growing list! |

Has anyone tried End-all in an AP system? We use it for aphids in the greenhouses(not in my AP though) I may do a goldie test to see the result. It is biological and effectively parisitizes the aphid. An alternative thought would be to have a disposable bait plant just to attract the aphids, then systematically destroy the plant and get a new one. I know some flowers will attract them. From what I understand, aphids are slow to respond to stresses. If the stress is slow they can develop wings to move, but if it is fast and destructive it will decimate the population before they have a chance to respond. Hayden |

Don't know end-all Hayden. We definately need a few sprays that we know will work without effecting AP to much... I'm hoping to start my trials tomorrow.. |

How about a coordinated effort EB? I have a few guppies that wouldn't mind an experiment, a small grow bed well aged as well. Just have no idea what sprays would be wanted to test. I'm still using the squish the babies and blow the adults into the wall method. |

I was adopting the approch of trying what organic type sprays were locally available, so that other could just go and buy remedies, knowing that it wouldn't kill things... Damn, doesn't seem to be a website for the one I'm going to try, but it's called beta bug, and it's a garlic chilli spray, available at most nurseries here in Aus.. |

And you should try your local sprays there, on your pests... Then we'll have all bases covered....  I'll keep posting on this thread as to what I find.... Hopefully there'll be no big fish kills to report..

I have tried chilli/garlic for a while now and all in all not much of a reaction from anything, still found the check,squish and feed method the best. |
