I just brought some Bhut Jolokia seeds and I have heard that they are very difficult to germinate.

Can any of the chili gurus give me some tips to make sure my little seeds reach their potential.

Thanks Mantis!!

I have A LOT of reptiles so I have a few heat mats and thermostats spare.
I can spare a few for chili propagation.

:laughing3: Now i will put in some serious talk. I bought some seeds from a chili company about 2 years ago. It said to put them in hot water overnight to get them started. I put them in a thermos of hot water overnight. I then put them in those jiffy pots and nutured them inside with no luck. I decided to try it again this year. I just put the seeds straight into small pots of potting mix, bought a cheap plastic green house and kept them lightly watered. :thumbright:
A storm came through and blew down my greenhouse :upset: and ended up with a whole pile of soil and 6 different chili seed varieties spread over my pavers. The seeds were actually starting to germinate. I shoveled all the soil back and salvaged as many seeds as i could find.
I have now 3 out of about 30 seeds now seedlings but I have no idea what sort they are :?:
Will have to wait for them to fruit and knowing my luck they will be all the same chili type!! :dontknow:

Gods!

Sorry to hear that Sea Monkey!

All I need is at least one to germinate, fruit true and hopefully I'll be able to take cuttings.

Oh well heres hoping I get three different types and can save seeds!
The three seedlings are looking strong even though they are only about 1.5 cm in height but im excited. I did put a red ruocoto seed directly in my growbed and it grew up very spindly and had one fruit but it didnt survive. I was surprised it even made it that far. I put the seed on a bit of tissue so it didnt fall to far between the expanded clay balls
