I have had some rhubarb in over winter and it hasn't really performed well. The leaves are like massive elephant ears, but the stalks aren't growing up.. at all... (sorry for lack of photo) There just seems to be a ball of stem and roots at the base and that's it... Could this be a nutrient issue, or the fact I'm using pea gravel as media? Cheers

I have seen a similar situation with a lone Rainbow Chard I planted. Plenty of leaf, no stem. My other Rainbow Chard which has been planted close together has long stems and large leaves. My guess is that as the plant is receiving plenty of light it does not need to reach for the sky hence the lack of stem in the lone plant. Perhaps the same is happening with your plant. |

My (dirt-garden) rhubarb have short stalks during winter. They get longer when it heats up (around now?). |

Yea my chard did the same during winter this year but has now taken off in the warmer weather. |
