I started thinking, how do you meet the different needs of plants in a system? Some that may not like too much water, but need their nutrients. Others that like lots of water. Some may not do well if exposed to too much nitrogen. What tips and tricks have you learnt? For example I was thinking of plants that dont like too much water. Would it be best to have a rapidly draining grow bed (like via a timer or a very short grow siphon). Then I started thinking in my dream super large system I could have one sloping concrete trough....sloping from 12 inches to say 36 inches....and a siphon draining it. This would help with having less plumbing as the entire thing could simply be staggered with the water thirsty ones on the deep side and the ones who just like a little on the shallow side. All this is just in theory of course but I was wondering about what you've found in your history. |

Hi and welcome Bourbon, Most plants do well in aquaponics, some prefer F&D to CF but that is more the exception. Some plants done like aquaponics at all but search the forums for specific plants and see what comes up. You will be surprised how well they all grow

Yea the BYAP system trial thread has got some good examples of how well different plants do in different systems. |
