Hi all,
Today I found this butterfly on my eggplant. Is it harmful for the plants?

Thanks

Possibly a type of cutworm moth. I would be on the lookout for caterpillars

It is only one now and only saw it flying around today. Should just get rid of it?

The moth itself is not a problem as it won't be feasting on your plants, however it is probably there to lay eggs on a plant that is suitable fodder for its larva, caterpillar stage. The caterpillars can do a lot of damage and in a short time, if you can get rid of the moth it prevents more eggs being laid. The other thing to do is spray with bacillus thuringiensis
(Dipel-Australian brand name) http://npic.orst.edu/factsheets/BTgen.pdf
The caterpillar ingests the posion and dies, preventing plants from further attack, safe for use in an aquaponic system. You can still collect the caterpillars and feed to the fish. I love Dipel
